Derby invitations have been awarded to five HVRC racers based on their results in the USSA regional races. USSA regional races finished up in mid-February. There were (7) qualifying USSA races for U16’s and (5) qualifying races for U12’s & U14’s. In order to qualify for state derbies, a racer must complete one less than half of the available runs and accumulate world points that place them within the quota for our region. Each race is two runs and both count towards qualification. Congratulations to Nico Castracani (U12), Blake Baughman (U12), Drew Kukla (U14), Will Wanovich (U16), and Garrett Berner (U16) will be going to State Derbies. Nico and Blake will go to their first derbies as the top two U12 seeds from the western region of Pennsylvania! Garrett will go to his first derby and is joined by Will, who is going to his 2nd derby. Drew will be attending his first derby.
Thanks to all of the HVRC club parents and coaches that helped make our Race Clinic a success. (14) new racers joined about 40 club members for the two day event. Special thanks to Sandy Blasey and Kathy Wiley for coordinating all the food and the folks who were able to assist with course setting and maintenance.
We are practicing both Saturday and Sunday this week. Saturday is from 9 AM – Noon and will be a slalom course on Imperial. Sunday is a GS course on Imperial from 9 AM – 11 AM followed by the Open Cup Race. These practices will be primarily inspecting and running courses. Eric H., Antonio, and Eric M. will meet racers at 9 AM.
Our last Open Cup Race is this Sunday at 1:00 PM on Imperial. Doug and Chris will meet those helping with set up at 11 AM. If you are available to help, please give these guys a hand. Following the race, the Open Cup Series Champions will be awarded their trophies.
